replace broken mobo with new to original HD ?

Hi there,
We have a PC with a non-working GA-970A-DS3P Motherboard and AMD 6300 CPU , so purchased a new motherboard to replace it with new processor and ram, which is a Gigabyte AB350-gaming 3 with a ryzen 5 1500
We have windows 10 installed already on the Harddrive.
Is it possible just to switch the new motherboard etc with the broken one, as we are unable to do a fresh install of windows on the hardrive. Will windows 10 be able to recognize the new hardware etc all okay.

you’re not going to know until you do it.
chances are good that Windows will automatically install all the hardware, and due to those changes, will probably also need to be re-activated.
whatever Windows doesn’t recognised will be downloadable from the mobo’s website or installation CD.
where did your current WIn10 version come from, Win7 upgrade, purchased yourself or already on the PC?

Going to give it a go tomorrow, and hopefully it will all go smoothly fingers crossed
The Windows 10 is an upgrade, from a windows 7 upgrade , originally the PC was Vista

I know on a few PC’s around the house, over the years, on the ones I upgraded from Win7 to Win10, when I reinstall 10 I enter the Win7 key and all goes well.
if you do need to reinstall afresh, when it asks for the product key, tick the box “I don’t have one” and continue, it’ll activate from the Windows Server credentials if it thinks you are still entitled. but try a repair install first.

got it all put in this morning, and touch wood seems to all be working. hooray ! what a lovely feeling that is when everything boots up and works lol
only thing i have noticed is its saying windows 10 isn’t activated, if i click to activate it then go to put in my windows 7 key that came with the windows 7 upgrade disc, it says that key isn’t recognized

from your previous post, it sounded like your Win7 was an update from Vista, so that key is probably an ‘update’ key.
from memory, on one of my PC’s I had to reload Win7 on from XP, I had to first load XP and upgrade again to Win7.
in other words, follow the same upgrade route that previously got me to the OS I wanted.

may be time to call Microsoft for help.
I’ve rang them many times in the past for activation problems and they have always been very helpful and sorted things out.

Sorry yes, pc is all working correctly. still got to phone Microsoft to sort out the activation , but apart from that all is good thank you
