Awhile ago I was switching cases in my PC and my motherboard shorted out. I heard a very loud pop and the smell of something burning. I unplugged and took everything apart and decided I needed to buy a new motherboard. About a week ago I bought a new motherboard and plugged everything in. I turned the system on and everything turns on. Hard drives spin up Dan’s turn on etc. But there was no display. I took out the cpu to see if there was any differences when I turned it on and there wasn’t. Could I have ruined my processor when the original motherboard shorted? My specs are
Gigabyte GA-78LMT
amd fx 6300
16gb hyper x ddr3 ram
2 1tb Western digital hard drives
i switched to different ram for testing purposes and that didnt change anything. one of the main capacitors on the board got fried and i think it shorted to the cause. i am using the same hard drives but the spin up and work fine when i put them in my buddies computer. the board is GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 R2 AM3+/AM3 AMD 760G USB 3.1 . the proper amount of thermal compound was applied and it was suing stock fan and heatsink
i am using the same hard drives but the spin up and work fine when i put them in my buddies computer.
Were you able to read the information form the HDD?
Did you run any test to confirm that the HDD was still in proper working order? Which ones what were the results?

How are you cooling the system and did you use thermal goop (proper amount) and remove any of the old prior to applying the new?
The board doesn’t have a built in speaker so there is no audible beeps but yes all fans come on and drives are spinning up and it sounds like a running system
No lights on the board. It’s a cheap board. Doesn’t look like it has any lights. Yes the ram is installed correctly I’ve used a few different monitors all with the same result. I use my monitor with my Xbox so I know it works.
