    Harddrive Issue

    My system: HP Envy 700-074
    Intel i5
    MSI motherboard MS-7826 Kaili
    Windows 8.1

The only thing I’ve added from stock is a cheap 2 GB Nvidia graphics card, and I recently swapped the two sticks of RAM for two sticks a new RAM, same specs. ( I went from 1 stick of 8 gb and 1 stick of 4 to 2 sticks of 8 GB)

So today, I was going to add an SSD to my system and try and boot from a CD to install Windows 10

Steps. Unplugged the power, let the anti-surge power supply run out. Plug in my SATA 3 cable as an addition, plug in the SSD. Plug back in the power, turn on, and when it went to boot up it just gets stuck on a black screen with the HP logo. I’ve tried unplugging the SATA 3 cable, but to no avail.

Any ideas? Best theory I’ve heard yet is that maybe the power supply is overdrawn, but I would have thought unplugging the SSD would have solved that.

    Hello

What wattage is your psu? Is your current OS Win 10?

to get over the hump, try these…

plug the PC directly into a wall socket, bypassing any UPS/surge protector/power board.
disconnect any internal HDD’s and put the SSD on one of those power and data cables.

get into BIOS and make sure the CD unit is first in the boot order.

where did the CD with Win10 come from?
use the Media Creation Tool to get 1803 (1809 has just been pulled from the MS servers).

While in the BIOS making changes to the boot order check to make sure that the SDD is recognized there as well.

Might be a worthwile experiment to put the original ram and video back to the way it was before you change more hardware and update from Windows 8. If all works when back to original change the components one at a time and test it to determine the culprit.
