    USB Ports

    Hi
Sorry to ask such a dumb question…
A while back, after a Windows 10 update, two of my USB ports stopped working.
Tonight I tried to fix that issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers.
I went through the process and was told when reinstalling that the USB drivers that were installed were already the most recent and I was good to go. I took that to mean the USB drivers were not uninstalled and the process had not worked. I restarted my PC on a unrelated matter and now neither my mouse nor keyboard works. I made a backup on my desktop after uninstalling, but now I can’t get to it and I feel like the worlds biggest
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Hi @Larryg0707 and welcome to PCHF

Have you tried using the Windows 10 DVD / USB stick to get into recovery and rolling back to a system restore point?

Hi and thanks for the welcome.

The system came with win 10 pre installed so I don’t have a disk
USB stick wouldn’t work since ports won’t work.

It’ll work in BIOS. Windows 10 won’t see it though. If the ports don’t work in BIOS, then the motherboard is defective.

Forgive my denseness, but you’re saying I have to get into Bios? How would I do that without a mouse and keyboard?

You’re saying that the keyboard and mouse don’t work at all? You can’t press F2 to get into BIOS? There’s no lights on the keyboard?

Correct, just tried it make sure. A green light on the keyboard lit up for a second but then went out.
I kept hitting F2 all through boot and nada.

I’m afraid your motherboard is bad.

                What motherboard do you have?

                  It an Asus.

I’m gonna hit the hay for tonight but I’ll give the bios another shot in the morning.
I should just hold f2 on the keyboard, right?

Thanks so much for chatting with me about this
                  I appreciate it

I’ll need the exact model to get into BIOS, but usually it’s F2, ESC, or Del.

So I got into BIOS, it was delete then F12 I had to hit…
I don’t see anything about restoring however…Where would I look for that?

Since every BIOS is different, if you have a smart phone or digital camera, take a shot of what is showing on every tab and upload the shots.

OK…So first off, thanks to those who chimed in and tried to help. I REALLY appreciate your time.

I fixed the issue like this…

Restarted and crashed Windows three times to bring up the Repair menu.
                            Restored to two weeks ago…

In closing, Windows 10, now I’m going to eat pie.
