    PC Instability - Help

    My Specs: Ryzen 5 2600x
    G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200 Memory
Gigabyte x470 Aorus Gaming Ultra Motherboard
    Gigabyte 1060 Windforce OC 3GB

My problem is that when I’m streaming, using OBS, I’ve had various crashes and it’s taken to a boot drive failure several times with various different settings, which I’ll list below. Note: Streaming at 900p 60fps
CPU @ 4 GHz RAM @ 3200 MHz - CPU @ 3.95 GHz RAM @ 3200 MHZ - CPU @ 3.95 GHz RAM @ 3000 MHz Note: This is with my encoding settings using x264 and recording while streaming. In any of these scenarios max CPU usage is ~70% and max temps are ~68°C
Right Now I’m using 3.85 GHz and 3000 MHz and it seems to be working although I switched to NVENC H.264 for encoding my stream and stopped recording while streaming.
I have tried XFR2 and it doesn’t seem to crash at all although the temps go up to ~84°C then the CPU slows down to ~3.3 GHz to cool down and I’m not sure if that would be hurting my performance at all.
Based on these results I’d just like to get an opinion on what my best option is for the settings I should run or how to resolve these issues.

I’m using the box cooler that comes with the CPU and 2 fans pulling air in the front with one pushing out the back. I also run the fans all at max speed because it’s not that loud.

just to confirm, the PC only shuts down, reboots (not sure which) and only when the CPU is over-clocked?
what PSU is in it by the way?

Yes, it seems to be unstable when its overclocked or the ram is past 3000 MHz. My PSU is an 850 watt EVGA supernova. The PC freezes when this happens and I have to manually restart it.

Hi joshyjames. It sounds like you have an unstable overclock. I would reset your BIOS back to default values and see if the computer is stable while using OBS. If it is then you will know that the CPU or the RAM overclock is too much for the system to handle. So if the computer is stable with the RAM and CPU on default settings then you can try overclocking just the CPU and see if the computer crashes. Then if everything checks out, set the CPU back to default values and then overclock just the RAM and test to see if the computer is stable. This way you can narrow down which component is causing the computer to be unstable.

It seems to work at 3.9 GHz and 3200 MHz on the ram so I’m good with that. I would definitely troubleshoot further but the performance is really well so I’m not going to stress about it but thanks for the help.
