Troubleshooting my PC; possible CPU issue?

    Hey folks,

The PC that I built about a decade ago finally seems to have kicked the bucket, and it’s been so long that I appear to have lost my troubleshooting skills. I was hoping to get some idea/confirmation of what might be the issue.

The other day I noticed it had just randomly shut off. When I tried to power it back up, nothing happened. I checked my wiring, cracked it open, and disconnected the graphics card and drives from the power source. Still nothing. I happened to have an extra power source hanging around, so I tried replacing that; still nothing. I also had an extra motherboard I’d purchased on sale a while back, so I tried that, reattached everything, and now it actually powers up, but I get no display. Meaning, the fans kick on, the drives power up, but nothing comes on screen.

I’m not sure where to go from here. I don’t have an extra CPU, but seeing as those are a bit pricey, I don’t want to blindly order a new one. Any help would be appreciated!

on the ‘new’ motherboard, if it has a dedicated video port, use that and leave the graphics card from the initial setup out and see if that helps
also try it with everything disconnected except the mouse, keyboard, monitor and hard drive.
