i5-7500 running past base speed constantly

I recently noticed my i5-7500 runs at a speed of 3.6ghz when only using about 15% or 25%, i’m not sure why this is, my cpu has a base speed of 3.4ghz and a max turbo of 3.8ghz. (I also have enhanced intel speed step enabled and intel turbo boost) My question is should it be running this way, should i be worried or doesn’t it matter and i can just leave it?

Is this CPU overclocked at all?

Everything in the overclocking settings is set to auto so I’d assume not?

Hi Ben. Your CPU could also be turbo boosting to a faster frequency while its under a light load. What is the frequency when the computer is idle for the CPU? If you go into your computers BIOS what does the frequency of the CPU show as?

Hey evan, sorry i kinda forgot about this but the bios says the default thing its set to is 3400mhz with a ring ration of 3500mhz and as for idle speed the lowest ive seen it go is about 3.56ghz at about 7% usage.

If your CPU is not being overclocked, you can try resetting the BIOS settings back to default values and see if that resolves the issue. If that doesn’t work, then I honestly wouldn’t worry about it if you CPU is running fine.
