How to get graphics card to work after Windows 10 Update Messed Up mine?

After the December critical update, the internal graphics card in my 64-bit Dell Inspiron 660s stopped supporting dual monitors. Since there is no restore point prior to the update, I checked to see if Dell had an updated driver and it does not. So I purchased an AMD XFX Radeon HD 5450 dual monitor graphics card and installed it. After I did so, the original Dell card worked for both monitors for a day but reverted to working with only 1 monitor when I tried to use the new AMD card. Now both cards have an explanation point through them in device manager and, when I start my computer, it gives me an error message that “no AMD graphics driver is installed or does not function. Please install the appro0priate driver.” Paid Microsoft support, after 10s of hours, tells me my choices are to live with 1 monitor or go back to an earlier version of Windows and reinstall all my programs! Surely there must be a way to get the new card to work.

Lot of people running Windows 10 and AMD graphics have had problems with updates the past couple pf months or so

Can you post a link to the XFX Radeon HD 5450 card that you have purchased.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

I installed it because online posts indicated that it worked with Windows 10. When it didn’t work, I went to this link to update it:

From that site, I downloaded the Catalyst Software Suite 15.7.1 at the bottom but that didn’t work either.

I will download Speccy after breakfast and let you know if it helps.

Bit confused by the above, are you saying that you had two AMD video cards installed working in Crossfire mode, Speccy says that Crossfire is disabled, see AMD article here but only if you do have two AMD cards in the computer.

The voltages in Speccy look a bit off, particularly the ones I have highlighted in red, these are the voltages that go to the PCI and PCI-e video card slots and drives.

Two different lots of drivers installed over two days, as already mentioned over the past few months a lot of people using AMD video cards have been having problems due to Microsoft updating drivers not just unnecessarily but also with the wrong drivers as well, leave as is for the moment until we have the answers to the questions asked above.

The original graphics card is listed under my device manager as “Intel (R) HD Graphics,” although my Microsoft tech believes the card was changed when Microsoft did the Windows 10 update on December 10th.

I have only 1 AMD graphics card but installed an updated driver yesterday that makes the card work, at least with one monitor, but there is still an ! point and error message in device manager.

How do I find the PSU information.

One more piece of info that might help. Yesterday, I found a later driver for the AMD card. #15.201.1151.1008, dated 11/4/2015, and downloaded it. That it what got this monitor working with the AMD card.

This explains the confusion and potentially why the XFX HD 5450 will not work, will come back to the XFX card after we have the PSU information and for now only clear up the confusion.

Apart from the new XFX video card that you have purchased there is no other video card in the computer, your CPU Intel® Pentium® Processor G2030 has integrated Intel HD graphics and is not a separate card per se, your computer specss here state there was an option of having either an AMD Radeon HD 7570 or an NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 so reading your OP it appeared that you may have had one of the two aforementioned add on video cards.

You have fitted your own video card so know how to open up the case to get the PSU specs but can I just say the following, make sure to shut down the computer properly, disconnect it from the wall socket, same for the screen and any printer etc, press the chassis power on button to get rid of any residual charge in the circuits, remove the side of the case, look for an information label like the example in my attachment below.

Yesterday I broke down and paid a local IT servicer. After 4 hours, he was able to get the original internal graphics card to work with both monitors. He succeeded by updating the driver for a graphics adapter I had stopped using 6 months ago! It doesn’t make any sense but it works so I’m not asking any questions! Thanks for your efforts.
