GPU not detected. (GTX 1080)

Okay, this is gonna be a long one. I’ve been playing the new Wolfenstein 2 all week. No problems. Then, 2 days ago it updated and right after it said i had to upgrade my drivers. I download the latest drivers, try to install and bam, graphics driver failed to update. Fine, i’ll clean it with DDU and try again. Nothing.. what about older drivers? no luck. Then, for some reason, my gpu wasn’t showing up in device manager anymore. WTF? So i’m placing the card in another slot, same thing. The cards fans start up on pc start up, but as soon as windows logo comes in they stop spinning. I updated my Asus Z77-A to it’s latest bios (somewhere 2014 is latest), no luck. I searched for hidden devices in device manager, nothing found. I ran Ccleaner. So i’m like crap.. my GPU is broken. So i tried this card i have laying around, some AMD x270 or so, same exact thing. Can’t install drivers, wont show up in device manager. I tried changing some bios settings, to no avail. Strange thing, the GPU does heat up and i’m using my monitor on it. Same thing if i use the AMD GPU. What do i do..

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop. Run the program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When the program opens select the following boxes:


List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Hi Professor Smoothie, Welcome to PCHF!

Have you checked in your motherboards BIOS for an option to enable your dedicated video card and to not use the integrated video chip on the motherboard?

In Device Manager, after showing hidden devices, do you see a display adapters category? Are you overclocking any components? Have you tried blowing out all dust and debris inside the case paying particular attention to make sure there is nothing covering the PCI-E slots on the motherboard?

I’ve disabled the iGPU earlier. Not overclocking anything.
I’m doing a fresh install of windows 10. I’ve recently received 2 new SSD’s, so instead of migrating my OS to it, i’m just gonna do a fresh install. I’ll come back here after, see where we’re at. Probably tomorrow.

Ok keep me posted if doing a clean install of Windows allows you to install the drivers for your video card.

Finally managed to install windows on a raid SSD setup. Lot of work if you’ve never done it before. Right now, the driver isn’t compatible with my windows because it’s not fully updating yet, and for some reason the downloads are staying at 0% and will sometimes jump high.

It worked. My GPU is showing up in device manager and the drivers installed. Thanks you guys!
