M.2 support...yay or nay?

I’m planning on getting an SSD, to boot the OS from, and have chosen to get an M.2 or a PCI connection, instead of an 2.5" SETA one.

However, does my motherboard have M.2 support, or do I have to get an adapter?
Also, can my system boot from M.2, because I’ve heard that not many systems support it?

My motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. A68HM-PLUS (FM2+ )

Your board unfortunately does not have an M.2 slot, you can however use an adaptor like the one here if you purchase something similar from elsewhere be sure to check that if it is PCI-E 3.0 that it clearly states that it is backwards compatible with PCI-E 2.0 as a minimum.

Edit to add, some bad news for you ShadowWarrior17, your PCI-E 2.0 X1 slot is already populated by your wireless card.

Don’t worry about that; I will remove it and it’s drivers to use a USB one.
Hopefully that will work out…right?

Edit: Is it worth getting the M.2? Is there much of a difference between PCI?
AND can my system boot from M.2?

No mention in your user manual of how to set up such a device so would suggest that you contact ASUS customer support here and ask them.

There are mixed results reported online if you have a look here as an example.

NB: What options does it give under the SATA drop down tab in the Boot order part of the BIOS.
