Kingston SSD A400 Solid State Drive 2.5 inch SATA 3 - 240 GB not quite 256GB but close enough and adequate for Windows.

Unless you already have one, you will need to purchase a SATA cable as the drive does not ship with one.

Your FSP250-60HHN 85+ PSU has 4 SATA connections so you should have two spare.

We don`t know what is in your case, if you check and there is no 2.5" bay specifically for an SSD you need to make sure that there is a 3.5" bay spare so that you can fit an SSD adaptor like the one here

120 GB will be ok for a couple of years as long as you only have Windows and your AV on it SanDisk SSD PLUS 120 GB btw, I noticed that you have Norton, is it a paid for product or free, see my canned info below;

Are you aware that Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 have an updated version of Windows Defender that offers the same real time protection as Microsoft Security Essentials, you do not need third party AV protection and by not installing any you are reducing the possibility of potential conflicts and freeing up resources on your computer

Also what do you mean by AV, and will having Windows on there speed it up? Does windows really take up that much storage? How much free/reserved storage does an SSD need to perform at it’s optimum?

When the trial expires uninstall Norton using the proper removal tool from here restart, check that Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update a carry out a full scan of your computer.

AV = Anti Virus protection.

Having Windows on the SSD will allow the computer to boot up in a matter of seconds, I have a Sandisk SSD in my gaming rig and it boots almost as soon as the power button is pressed, it also has a dashboard that runs in the background monitoring the SSD, any problems and it will let you know, sometimes you may even get an email warning as well.

How much free/reserved storage does an SSD need to perform at it’s optimum?

See my canned info below but for a 120GB Windows boot SSD you should always keep 30GB of free storage space.

Please note that in order to avoid data corruption and/or mechanical HDD failure for you must always have a minimum of 20 to 25% of the HDDs or partitions overall storage capacity available as free space where Windows is installed and between 10 and 15% of a HDDs overall storage capacity available as free space if there is data only on it, the free space allows for information to be copied to and from the drive efficiently particularily important for Windows file swapping and the installation of OS and AV updates.

Not having the above can render a computer inoperable if the HDD concerned has the OS on it due to the MBR (Master Boot Record) becoming damaged/corrupt, please see information here and here

I saw a video on youtube, and the guy just put the SSD in, changed a thing in the BIOS some four letter data type I think, then made his CD drive boot first as it had the Windows CD in there, then windows installed on his SSD.

If anyone could, not now, but sometime, give me a detailed step by step guide on how to get my OS onto my SSD, all of the information is in this thread. Thanks in advance!
