Did I damage my hard drive?

Today I was using my PC and I was just about to do something and whenever I know I’m not going to use my PC for longer than 10 minutes I like to put it to sleep. So I put it to sleep as always and then, as I always do, when I wanted to use it again I tapped the power button. However, this time, it didn’t seem to want to wake up. I did this multiple times but it wouldn’t wake up. I figured the most likely problem is the wire connecting the power button to the motherboard probably came loose (I know it had power because I have a light on the front of my case which flickers when it’s sleeping). I check and all my wires were connected just as they were supposed to be. So I just pushed the power button one in a bit just in case but it still didn’t work.
Since it didn’t turn on I moved on to Plan B which is the part that worries me. I decided to just flick the switch on PSU off and on because I remember the old saying ‘have you tried turning it off and on again?’ Well, it worked but when I turned my PC on I realized it was taking some time to respond to my requests. I would click on URLs and it wouldn’t let me start typing for a few seconds or so and whenever I clicked on anything it took a lot longer than usual to respond. I quickly opened up Task Manager and I saw that disk was being used at 100%. It has since gone down to its regular 5-6% but I’m curious if turning off my PC like that could cause some sort of permanent damage to my HDD. My laptop appears to be operating very slowly in the same way and it all started after it was forcibly turned off while sleeping.

Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks.

Hi Moaz and welcome to PCHF

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop. Run the program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When the program opens select the following boxes:

    Flush DNS
    Report IE Proxy Settings
    Reset IE Proxy Settings
    Report FF Proxy Settings
    Reset FF Proxy Settings
    List content of Hosts
    List IP Configuration
    List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
    List Installed Programs
    List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Please post the log in your next reply

Also can you give us some more information about your machine, such as CPU, RAM, Motherboard info, etc.?

      Thanks for the reply!
I ran the MiniToolBox and I looked through it and I’m not sure if some of the stuff on there is safe to post here. I barely understand what half of the stuff means and I really don’t want to get keylogged because some guy found my IP address when I was scared for my PCs health! Is there any way you can help me with more specific, less worrisome information?

      Anyway, here’s my PC.
      AMD FX-8350 w/ Stock cooler
      Geforce Gtx 1050 Ti
      Msi 970 Gaming Mobo
1 stick of HyperX Fury Blue 8Gb RAM (I’m planning on buying another one in the near future)
1 TB Seagate blue HDD (7200 RPM) (btw, why do these things never actually have the listed capacity?)
      Corsair SPEC-02

It’s not much but it plays all the modern titles on medium-high settings so I’m more than happy with it.

          Thanks for the log

Try running The PC Decrapifier. It’ll find and tell you if there’s any “crap” on your machine and if so, it’ll let you remove it

Disk usage at 100% upon boot up is completely normal as programs start and get settled, such as anti-virus, firewalls, etc. No harm is done when this happens, as long as it doesn’t stay at 100% for days on end.

If you are worried about the health of your HDD, Crystal Disk Info is a nice simple tool.

            Use the (full) SuishoShizuku.com edition.

I even use it at work for a quick assessment for RMAs.

Whoa, I don’t think I’ve EVER been in temps that hot. Close somewhere in Western Australia but I was much younger than and din’t mind the heat quite as much.
Try to find someplace cool to hang out.
