Nothing has changed…the temps are still high and performance is not the best. Would getting a better CPU cooler help cool the whole system and get better results?

EDIT: While gaming, the temps for both CPU and motherboard Temps are reaching high 60s low 70s, do you think it’s throttling?

Yes most definitely. I would first try re-applying thermal compound on your current CPU cooler and see if that helps. If there is no change then you most likely should get a better CPU cooler.

I already tried applying paste, so I guess i should buy a cpu cooler. This one is good right? Amazon.com

Yes, that cooler will work great with your system.

Okay Update: I got the Coolermaster 212, the temps dropped around 20 C both idle and gaming, but the fps increase is only around 10-15. Do you guys think overclocking is a good or bad idea, keeping in mind that I’ve never done it before?

If you care about FPS performance that much then I would say go for it and overclock in small increments at a time. If you are satisfied with your performance then there is no need to overclock your CPU. It depends on your needs and how picky you are when it comes to performance in the games that you play.

My motherboard, MSI 970a gaming pro carbon, has an OC genie or something, should I use that for Overclocking?

Sure that will be fine but make sure you understand what settings you are changing before you start overclocking.

From the root of the problem, I’m pretty sure my pc was being thermal throttled because it was getting way to hot with the stock cooler, so when i got the coolermaster it is much better. I also overclocked to 4.4 Ghz, and i’m pretty sure it’s stable because i let prime95 run for about 8 hours without problems, but on the task manager it says im only running at 4.26Ghz, but on CPUz it says im running at 4.399Ghz, which one is correct?

If you click Start< Right click on Computer and click on Properties, what does your CPU frequency say?

Ok so that is your actual reported CPU frequency. Don’t worry about looking at other values.
