Will this RAM work with my laptop?

Hey,
I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5555 with 4gb of DDR3L RAM and an AMD A4 CPU. I got 8gb (1x8gb) of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM, and I’m not really worried about it not working because DDR3 =/= DDR3L, but the fact that it only has Intel stickers on the packaging. I’m not sure if that just means it was meant for Intel CPUs but will still work with AMD or what, so I’d like some info. Here’s a really crappy pic I have of it…

Is the system 32 bit or 64 bit?

How much RAM can the system handle? You will need to refer to the manual for that information.

Does it require it to be installed in pairs?

Is the RAM the proper speed?

Are you sure this RAM is the SODIMM variant? The picture above looks much like the Desktop variant below:

SODIMM/laptop variant (this is what you want):

As a side note, you need DD3L to ensure you don’t burn out your CPU/motherboard. Dell machines use less voltage for some of their parts, RAM included.

Yeeah so this RAM ain’t gonna work… how can I be sure that I’m buying the right RAM next time? It has 2 slots and it can take up to 16gb of DDR3L RAM. Does the speed need to be the same speed as the original RAM?

The Crucial site has a scanned that will tell you what RAM you have installed and what you can up grade to.

Best thing to do is buy matching pairs. Systems do not run properly on miss matched RAM.

Do also bear in mind that if your O/S is 32 bit any more than about 3.5 GB ram is useless.

I remember that from my old XP laptop. My new laptop is W10 x64 so there shouldn’t be a problem with 8gb
