Recommend me a PSU please

Having issues with my power so am going to try and replace it, it’s several years old (cosair TX750W) but have no idea what is a good make and what even makes a good PSU these day. Here are my specs;

There are many decent PSU brands out there. I run an ULTRA X4 1000 watt modular PSU. Unfortunately I think they are out of business. Corsair makes a good PSU. Thermaltake and EVGA also do well. My only gripe with the Corsair PSU and I only had one was the fan quit on me about a year after purchase. With luck it is easy to replace. Tom’s Hardware has a good article on high rated PSU’s. Looking at your system stats I would suggest at least a 900 watt PSU because your video card is rated at 250 watts. That will give you some room to upgrade if necessary.

These stats are for your GTX980Ti…

Problem is I don’t want to get too much of a fancy PSU as I don’t even know if that’s my issue. I’m currently not able to power on about 50% of the time, when this happens I have to reaaallly push in my power cable and keep tapping the power button, eventually it kicks in. It NEVER cuts power during use.

Also if you can power up your pc,please download this.. Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Once installed,run your pc for a while a hour should do… run speed fan and then check those voltages…Then post a screen shot of those voltages..

If speedfan doesn’t work correctly in Win 10 then try this one.. HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID

The power supply you’ve chosen is fine. Before your go that far I suggest checking the micro switch of power button. The switch will look something like the following…

If you have one handy or an old computer case setting around then you could build something that looks like this.

Power Switches are momentary switches so if there is corrosion the high resistance will cause issues similar to a PSU problem.

Thanks! Here you go, this is after about 10mins. Don’t have too much time tonight, will try again tomorrow and see if there is much difference.
I actually opened up the PC tonight, tried a different power cable and socket and it started up. Held the power button down to switch it off. Pressed power button again but it didn’t turn on. It came on when I hit the I/O switch at the back of the PSU off and on. Powered it off and the same happened again but then not a 3rd time. In the end had to do the normal (put out PSU plug from back, switch power on and insert the plug very slowly).

Thanks for the suggestion LordChance, was a bit too late so I wasn’t able to check this time. Will next time but would be very surprised if it was damaged as it’s a new board.

The micro switch is in the case behind the power button. The way you describe how you get your PC to come on leads me to suspect the power button switch.

The ONLY way I can power up my PC now seems to be inserting the power cable into the back of the PSU. I don’t think it has anything to do with the power button switch? Maybe a better question is why on earth is my PC powering up without pressing the power button?

It was really bad this morning, took about 10mins of slowly jigging the power cable in and out. Not just in/out either but to the side and up/down. Could hear little power crackles, it did turn on for a millisecond then went off again. Eventually got it working, then as always it was 100% fine for over a hour. At which point I took this screenshot…

Ok..speedfan isn’t working correctly in Win 10…please try the other link i provided.. Btw what LC has mentioned about the power button is a good possibility.

Opened it up, yeah I’m not going to find those micro switches. Think they are inside the inner walls or something. I downloaded that other clock app. I think I’m just going to take this to a shop, I’m at a loss.

Ok will try the other fan app if my PC will start up tonight. The power button is in the case? I’ll have a look, it might be hidden deep within casing but I’d be even more surprised because a) It’s a brand new case, super new and fitted in a shop about a month ago. b)I had similar power issues in my old case too. It’s hard to imagine both my old case and this brand new case have faulty Micro switches.

Also, I have one of those external power buttons and tried plugging that in. Still didn’t work. One of these…

It was a thought. Power buttons are a common issue but since you have a new case then that should not be the problem. I just downloaded the manual for your motherboard. I’m impressed. That is a heavy hitter. When did the problem start? After you installed the video card? It may be that the PSU is just maxed out. As a PSU gets older it loses some of its push. Kind of like old folks like me.
