Hold off on buying a 1TB hard drive!
The BIOS on the computer says 2003 - 2006. I’m not sure how old the computer is but if it is 10 years old, it may not be able to recognize a 1TB drive because of the motherboard limitations.

What size hard drive is in it?

e520, not tested for Windows 10, meaning Dell has no drivers

There is also no manual for it and the site says manuals not available for products older than 7 years.
This came with a 160GB hard drive.

To see if the machine is really dead or not, you can try and install windows 7 on it. Here are instructions for clean installing windows 7.

Is there a sticker on the machine similar to this?


Are there any files on the machine you wish to retrieve.
Was the machine in storage, reason I ask is that the cables inside the case may have been knocked loose… etc.

Ya the machine was in storage for a while. I wouldn’t know which cables to mess with though.

It still won’t boot up, just let’s me go to the setup utility.

Well with how old the computer is, personally IMO the computer is not really worth fixing because it is running Windows Vista which is only going to be supported for less than a year with security updates.

If money is really tight then you could buy a replacement hard drive, buy a copy of Windows 7 and then install Windows 7 from scratch on that machine and it should work ok assuming that the drivers are compatible with Windows 7.

Its either replace the hard drive and install Windows 7 on that computer or get a whole new machine. What do you think you want to do?

just let’s me go to the setup utility.
Have you set the date and time to today’s date?
Because it was in storage, chances are good that the CMOS battery is dead.

Go through the setup, save the changes and see if Windows will boot.

I’ve tried all the things y’all told me to try and nothing worked. I took it apart and put it together. Didn’t work and idk what the problem is.

Then a mentioned in post’s 2 and 7,your HDD has probably failed…
