    Amazon Smart Search

I somehow acquired this and now it is impossible to get rid of it, there is no trace of it in my programmes nor in the list of add ons. I’ve run malware and adware peogrammes numerous times with no success, restored to a previous date but still it looms on my laptop. Does anyone have any ideas of how to delete it please?

Hi @Pat13 and welcome to PCHF

Please download the FRST 32 bit or FRST 64bit version to suit your operating system. It is important FRST is downloaded to your desktop.

If you are unsure if your operating system is 32 or 64 Bit please go HERE.

Once downloaded right click the FRST desktop icon and select “Run as administrator” from the menu.

If you receive any security warnings, or the User Account Control warning opens at any time whilst using FRST you can safely allow FRST to proceed.
Frst will open with two dialogue boxes, accept the disclaimer.

    Accept the default whitelist options,
If the additions.txt options box is not checked please select it.
    Then select “Scan”

Frst will take a few minutes to scan your computer, and when finished will produce two log files on your desktop, FRST.txt, and Addition.txt. They will display immediately on the desktop, but can be reopened later as a notepad file.

Please Copy and Paste the contents of these logs in your next post for review by our Security Team

I’m also going to move your thead to the Malware Removal area

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop. NOTE. It’s important that both files, FRST/FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work. NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system. Run FRST/FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run. When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post it to your reply.

We will need a log from AdwCleaner for further information.

Please download a copy of AdwCleaner from HERE, it is important to download it to your desktop.

Once downloaded to the desktop AdwCleaner will create an icon https://pchelpforum.net/proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FeEGkHP S.jpg&hash=9d86645a66bb9b6449fe719c6716af3d
Should you receive any security warnings or your User Account Control warning appears whilst you are using this application you can safely allow AdwCleaner to continue.

Before running AdwCleaner please ensure all other programs and browsers are closed, then double left click the icon to open it.

AdwCleaner will open, click the scan button to start searching.

          https://pchelpforum.net/proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FhBYSf6 z.jpg&hash=af98690e2992f0cd042f494104f2143e

The scan may take some time to complete, and when it has any malware found will be automatically selected for quarantining. Click the “Clean” button.

After a few seconds a message should tell you your computer will now reboot. Allow the reboot.

When the computer restarts a log file will be displayed, but if its closed for any reason before copying the contents, you will find a copy of the file if you navigate to C:\AdwCleaner[C#].txt (The C denotes the Clean log)

Please Copy and Paste the contents of the log file with your next reply.

After doing all this, please re-run FRST and post fresh FRST and Addition logs

I hope these are right as I am having an awful job saving things on my laptop at the moment. I must also add that I have used Adware Remover a number of times in the past 24 hours, it removes all the PUP files after the scan but Amazon Smart Search stays put.

Please post fresh FRST and Addition logs please

And I see that you’ve run previous tools before yes. As a precaution, please don’t run anything I don’t have you run myself while we’re disinfecting your PC.

I think I have cleared it following this path.

7 Mar 2018 - Click on the gear icon (menu) on the top right corner of the browser and select Internet Options. Stay in General tab. When in the new window, check Delete personal settings and select Reset again to complete Amazon Smart Search removal.

Currently things are working well and no signs of the dreaded Amazon screen, my only remaining problem is that i am unable to log into Yahoo Mail which happened at the same time as the Amazon infection and continues.

I see that you did not follow my instructions. As you have steered away from seeking help, I am closing this thread.

In the future, if you require malware assistance, I ask that you follow the helper’s instructions. We only ask that as we are devoting time to you to help you and ask nothing in return. We only want to help you.
