Hi everyone, I have a problem, last week I got infected with ransomware, it wasn’t the worst type that locks you completely out, but it did hijack my desktop and I think placed a few nasty surprises on my computer. I scanned my PC and used malwarebytes then removed what it found, then did a system restore and got everything back working as normal, then I noticed high CPU usage, when I looked it was “service host”…“windows update”, so I disabled it to check. Now I cant update windows, the windows update service I disabled has gone, and the update options in “settings” aren’t available to me.
I’m pretty sure the ransomware did this, I think to create a backdoor ? through updates.
I know I should have done certain things or different things, but I couldn’t go online to find out and I’m pretty much on my own as well as being housebound so I had to wing it.
Any ideas how I can fix this ? everything is fine except for the update thing. I’m using windows 8.1
I’m no genius with this stuff so please be kind
