Spying using PC?

Today I was told by a relative not to click on links that are found in messages that could probably be from scammers. I was also told that if the scammers hacked into your handphone/mobile phone, they can even see your handphone activities and can even see you through the camera hole(that hole used to take pictures). I know that happened to WWE wrestler Paige and her private videos got leaked. Can the same happen if hackers get hold of your PC through hacking? Can they see what you are doing through a camera hole that you use to live chat with others? Can they see your activities? I don’t mean just a record of what you are doing but actually see your activities while they are taking place both on screen and out of the screen. If I’m not mistaken such things can actually be done through the camera-hole of a laptop. I don’t mean to waste your time with just talking nonsense but my fear is genuine even if it sounds immature.

Thanks for the info. In other words, just unplug that camera thing with the wire that’s shaped a bit like an eyeball and everything will be ok? Or just simply don’t take up jobs that require using your PC for live screen communication?

You can also put a piece of masking tape over the camera.

Unless you do not follow basic security protocols someone can still access your system even if there is no camera.

As long as proper security measures are taken the harder it will be for them to access your system.

Taking those jobs are safe as long as you preform your due diligence.

As far as security goes- the most common things I see are remote control software (LogMeIn, Ultraviewer, AnyDesk, etc), and scams from fake tech companies offering ‘support and optimization.’ Never give anyone access to your computer unless you can be 100% certain they are who they say they are.

As Rustys mentioned, thinking before acting and not downloading potentially malicious software will get you far- Windows Defender has come a long way, and it’s not very common for people to get into your computer completely unprompted if you’re being safe and smart.

Do not forget to configure your Firewall plus if you are working from home using the Firewall and security settings on you modem and or router.

Keep constant backups on and in different places (I have 2 complete and 2 just of files).

DO not use more than one Anti-Virus program at once.

Have a system that is STRICTLY for work and that is all that it does. NEVER EVER use for person anything and the same for home computer never user a personal one for work.
