The disadvantages of running two real time protection A/v’s with or without firewalls are very well documented, on both effectiveness of each A/V and unnecessary use of computer resources. Two or more real time protection apps do not equal twice as much protection, far from it.

The built in Windows av (Windows Defender) shuts itself off, if it detects another av installed. So if you use the inbuilt Windows av and MBAM Pro there would not be 2 av programs running in Windows 8.1 and 10.

Perhaps gus means you should not run McAfee and Kaspersky together. I agree 100% with that.

In fact, I wouldn’t advise Norton/Symantec and McAfee to anyone. I used both back in the day when Peter Norton ran his company and John McAfee ran his company. Once the companies were sold, the programs became bloated and inefficient so I replaced them.

upon learning Defender now scores as good as any other security package, I ditched Norton’s when it came up for renewal.
so, yes @plodr, they certainly dropped the ball for years as you described but have been excellent for quiet a few years now - but as stated, there simply isn’t a need now with Windows 10 and Defender to buy AV software anymore.
also, on the MBAM website, they repeatedly stress that you could either just have MBAM as your sole security (I’m not onboard with that myself just yet) or run it happily with any other AV package.
