I’ve just got an HP ENVY 15-as002na laptop and get messages from McAffe Livesafe, installed on the machine, that it is at risk if I don’t subscribe. However the Windows Defender assures me it’s fully protected. On my previous (old) PC I had 360 Total Security that seemed to work OK.
Can you advise if the Windows Defender is sufficient or whether I need something else as well.
McAfee is included on most new PC’s due to the manufacturers’ possible contract with McAfee or some other reason. McAfee, in my opinion, is garbage. I would advise removing it and replacing it with either Avast or Avira
Windows Defender in Windows 8/8.1/ 10 is fine. On other versions of Windows it is next to useless.
I’d also add a malware detector. Ordinarily I’d say malwarebytes but v 3, the current version has issues. Version 2 will be supported until sometime in June so I’m not updating it.
If you can find a download for v 2, install that also.
You can add SecureAplus in addition to windows defender.
There are also some privacy concerns for windows 10, here is a nice software to combat that issue.
Zemana Antimalware is also nice, to have as a second opinion malware scanner.
