Sorry Mates but the information is inaccurate. The likely hood of damaging the hard drive controller as claimed is small. The damage would be to the data buss probably. Also getting 200 volts from the USB port is, shall we say, unlikely. That would take a voltage multiplier circuit of which I have never see that small. They also talk about charging the capacitor. Have you ever seen a SMD cap? They are used as voltage stabilizers not charged caps. Mind you, Iβm not saying it canβt be done. I have been around electronics for too many years to fall into that mindset but it is impractical when there are easier ways to kill a computer. A USB port is only a liability if the IT people are too lazy to lock it down. In a Corporate or Governmental setting, USB access should be through proper authentication protocols.Comment
