    Laptop can't see 5g network

I have an older Toshiba satellite L505 series that I use every day. Just switched my Internet from 2,4 to the. Now my laptop won’t connect. It doesn’t even come up as an optional network choice
Is the a easy fix instead of replacing the network card? I live in a small remote island with no PC repair shop near me for 185 miles, one way.. is there something easily installed that I can purchase and have shipped to me, that can help the laptop see and connect to the?

    Hello

You could try an usb wifi connection.. Just make sure the part is compatible with your usb port. Also compatible with win 7.

What make and model is the router? Most have the capability to use 2.4 or 5.

As you’ve found out the laptop only supports 802.11b/g/n which is 2.4 MHz only.

It’s a Toshiba satellite it’s about 5 or 6 years old and I don’t know the exact model number because the numbers on the sticker underneath have been rubbed off somehow so I don’t know how else to find the model number other than the sticker on the bottom so if you know how to find the model number in the computer I will figure it out and let you know but right now I’m kind of dead in the water there

I believe I’m actually running Windows 10 in it and how would I find out what the the right compatible USB Wi-Fi connection would be for my laptop?

In the meantime, why not get an ethernet cable and plug the laptop directly into the new modem/ router.
It sounds like your wireless adapter in the laptop is not compatible with your new network hardware.
If so, and you want to be wireless, you’ll need a USB wifi dongle that supports the new hardware.
