Whenever I use my laptop, nobody can connect to the Wifi!

Hi all,

I hope this is the right area, if not please excuse me and move where appropriate.

I have an ASUS X515 work laptop and our office uses a TP-LINK WiFi (if needed I can find out the exact name).

The people in the office use all different laptops and everybody can connect to the TP-Wifi but whenever I enter the room with my laptop, nothing works. We all have to use our mobile phone hotspots… It makes no sense!

I have already formatted my laptop, reinstalled the Wifi adapter, and done a lot of research without success so I really don’t know what could cause something like that.

I really appreciate your help in advance and hopefully somebody can resolve it.

maybe a better question for the IT guy.
it may be some setting on the modem/router/switch/wap’s that are in the office.
could be a security setting, an unknown devices connects to the network - shut the network down!

could be a firewall, or software on the network hardware (like UniFi Controller or whatever is in use).

if you are on a corporate network - talk to the corporate technician. (y)

Cheers for that. In terms of rule 15, it is not really a corporation. We are 4 people in a shed next to the home house. We just call it the “office” as this is where we come together but its a private network. There is no “IT guy”

I am not even connected to any network and as soon as I enter the room the Wifi just drops for everyone and nobody will be able to connect. Even when I am not even connected to any network. It’s completely bizarre. I will check the router settings.

I noticed a screw was missing from the laptop so maybe somebody put a tracker in there that interferes with everything xD

are you saying, even with the laptop off, if you walk into the shed, all other PC’s lose connection?

I was gonna say use this to set a static ip. But if it is doing that with just bringing the laptop in, then perhaps something is loose and shorting. Or maybe your phone might be the issue,

I was thinking the same thing over the weekend.
Instead of your laptop, is it ‘you’ bringing something else to the equation, something in your bag, or on your body - like your mobile phone?

something like you have a hotspot feature turned on, with better signal than the current network, and everyone is trying to connect to ‘you’.

No, the issue arose from day one I joined the team. My phone didn’t even know any of the surrounding networks but as soon as the laptop came in it just caused disturbances for everyone. I even go out for my lunch break and leave my laptop in the room and it still causes the same issues. Only when I leave the office with the laptop, everybody seem to be able to connect again.

I know it makes zero sense but there is some magic going on there…

have you tried troubleshooting, like;

[li]disabling the laptop bluetooth adapter[/li][li]disabling the wifi adapter[/li][li]your phone is off off, not just off and in standby[/li][li]checking hotspotting is disabled on all devices, yours and theirs[/li][li]are any on them on ethernet, or all are wireless - that is, does your presence only effect the wifi connected units[/li][/ul]
just to be clear, other PC’s in the room are connected fine, but when you walk in, they all disconnect?
not go slow or come and go but actually all die?
and this is with your laptop ON or OFF?

Make sure that your laptop is NOT a hotspot.
For Win 10

Have you tested by disabling your wifi before entering the room?

Also how many connections are allowed in the router ip range.
Any VPN involved
