Ethernet dosen't have a valid IP configuration

I have been having an issue with my home desktop lately. It wont connect to my home network through a wired or wireless connection and it gives me the following error when I run the windows diagnostic check on it: β€˜Ethernet dosen’t have a valid IP configuration’.

I have followed several guides online to try and fix it but nothing seems to work at all. The wired and wireless works on every other computer, Playstation and tablet in the house except this desktop. It used to work fine but just stopped for some reason and I cant figure out why.

I think it has something to do with the router as if I connect my phone to the router and hotspot my phones to the desktop it works perfect.

I have tried resetting the network and resetting windows in general. I am running windows 10.

I am at a loss at what to do at this stage, problem as been going on for months.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated!

Have you rebooted the router?

Check to make sure that for some reason that system is not blocked by the router.

Yep I have rebooted the router and it dosent work.

How would I check to see if the system is blocked by the router?

I reset the network in network and sharing centre and pc restarted itself automatically. I reset windows in the recovery section on control panel.

Its the modem that comes with the ISP. Its the virgin media hub 3.0. Dosent have a make on it other than that.

Log into the model
Look for MAC Filtering
IP and Port Filtering

See if one of them may be have your system blocked.

You do have it set to obtain the IP address automatically?

Logged in there and nothing seems to be blocked on either of those. Yep I have it set to obtain IP address manually.

Something I just noticed when I was in the router settings. Under connected devices on the router it has all devices which are connected wirelessly and wired. But for the desktop it has multiple connections for it but for all other devices it has just one.

(This is the header in the router under connected devices.)

Under the desktop connections it isn’t assigning an IP (under IP address) to it, while all other devices have one. It has a long sequence similar to this 2a12:5693:23d:ed66:d4aq:s32:vcbr:99654

I don’t know if this is any help but I just noticed it there.

Under you Ethernet Properties and Wireless Properties are the TCP/IP v4 and v6
Obtain IP automatically
DNS automatically
(under TCP/IP v4 on the second tab)
Automatic Private Address

That long number is an IP address ever since they came out with TCP/IPv6 they have been.

Some modems you can remove that reference and have it recreate it and that has helped.

assuming you have changed nothing on the router, let’s adjust the PC network settings.

in the ethernet adapters settings in Control Panel, untick IPv6.
double click IPv4 and manually enter your Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS server.
you’ll find all these in your modem or on a device that is connected, go to the command prompt and type in ipconfig/all and scroll up until you see the entries for your ethernet adapter.

when entering an IP address on the desktop, make sure you pick a IP up in the range a bit, so for example, if the device you do this on shows an IP Address of 192.168.1.23, enter 192.168.1.71 on your desktop.
