    Download speed slow

    Hi there,

I have a 2 year old custom built PC that has had no problems until today.

Out of the blue, my download speed has become capped at 600kbps. I am running it LAN so wifi connectivity is not the issue.

I have tried defragmenting my hard drive and SSD. I have checked the Ethernet cord itself by plugging it into an Xbox and downloading a game which the cord was fine doing so at 40mbs speeds. I have run the network troubleshooter which did not find an issue. I have run a quick scan on my computer antivirus software (Norton) and it found one malicious program which was promptly removed and yet download speed was still capped.
At this point I am lost for answers on what caused this or what to do about it.

    Please help.

and the Xbox is on the same network as the PC?
    have you rebooted the modem?
go to speedtest.net and test what speeds you get.
what are the chances you have exceed your monthly internet quota with us all staying at home these days?
have you rang your internet provider to double check the issue isn’t with them?

Xbox is on the same network.
      Trying speedtest.net I get 98 Download and 45 Upload.
I have not contacted my ISP as I assumed they wouldn’t be able to help much as the system is custom built and every other system on my network (16 in total) are not having issues at all.
I attempted to download a program on my computer and it took 45 minutes for 1.4 GB, when attempting on my phone on the same exact network, it took 6 minutes

Like @Bruce suggested have you rebooted the Modem and Router (if there is one).

Have you reset the setting for the network on that system

Have you tried with the security settings disabled

Have you tried different ports on the modem or router
