This morning I checked the laptop and the globe no internet icon was back. Running the Windows Network Diagnostic would restore the wifi for just a few seconds before returning to the globe.

I am now testing the connection using a USB wifi stick. It has been connected for about 30 minutes without issue. I will test this for while to verify the issue is with the laptop’s wifi adapter.

I have the wifi adapter disabled in Device Manager while I use the USB wifi.

I will report back if I lose connection again or receive further instruction.

Something else I want to point out,

When connected to wifi adapter, I noticed the laptop would run sluggish, as the mouse movement would lock up every few moments for less than a second before it would move again. I would not notice this after the globe appeared and I lost internet. It also didn’t happen when I was connected with the USB wifi.

I ran CCleaner. Cleared all junk files and cleaned the registry. Made a backup beforehand.

Rebooted and connected back to the wifi adapter. I have been connected for about an hour now without issue and I am not noticing any sluggish movement either. That would seem to happen before I would lose internet.

I will report back if any changes happen.

Just to confirm that the wired is no longer having issues keeping a connection?

What type of security do you have enable on the modem. Some people set the modem to only allow this IP and or MAC address.
Log into the modem and look under Parental Control and make sure there is nothing there that may be causing an issue.

Have you tried disabling Panda Dome to see if that helps at all?

What were the events leading up to when this started happening?

How far and what does the signal have to pass through?

From what you have attempted and what we have attempted may be the WiFi card will wait and see what the results are from using the Dongle. If the dongle works then there is a strong possibility that the WiFi is starting to go.

after my last post #17, the wifi adapter lost internet again after about 3 hours. I switched back to the USB dongle. I will keep it plugged in until I lose connection again.

After the three hours did you make any attempt to reconnect and what were the results?

When the Wifi adapter loses connection, I can no longer see any network in range. The only way it will see and connect to my wifi is to reset the adapter and it will see all available networks again.

I am still using the USB dongle since my last post without issue.

Then I would have to hate to say it sounds as if the WiFi is going out that is in the system.
You can replace it and or keep using the dongle and or use a cable.

can the adapter be removed from the motherboard or is it built in?

if its built in, are there expansion bays to install another?

I never opened this laptop yet.

How did things do with the Dongle?

Like I stated if you do not feel comfortable then take it to a shop that can other wise you may end up with a door stop.

I am still connected with the dongle without issue.

Years ago I had to open a 2004 Dell Inspiron to upgrade CPU and RAM. From that link, this newer model seems to have much less β€œdigging” to get to the cards. I should have no problem opening this model.

I can just order a replacement since they are rather cheap. This is an exact replacement from newegg. Would you recommend upgrading to a better card, if so, which would you suggest?

I would say that is a close match to the current card that you have in there now.

Hope that this does fix it and it does not turn out to be the port that it connects to.

Take it then that re-seating the card did not help at all?
