    Wifi connection to a tablet

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help with this.

I’ve got a desktop PC (Win7) with a broadband connection via the phone line, no wifi. I’d like to be able to use a tablet to access the internet in the house and garden via wifi. I think I need a wifi dongle which attaches to the PC and a wifi capable tablet, but do I need anything else, like a router, which I don’t think I have? Also, I looked at some dongles and none gives a useable range, so what specs do I need to look for? The range I need is quite short, maybe 10/15 m. Is there anything else I need?

I’m not a wiz at this stuff btw, so anything too technical is going to go over my head.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to PC Help Forum sorcerer,

To connect to the tablet you will need a wireless router, not sure who your broadband provider is or what their rules are regarding routers but here in the UK Sky will not activate a router that has not been provided by them.

Can you post a link to the service that your broadband provider offers so we can take a look, in the long run it will be less expensive to use a wireless router + you will have the added benefit of being able to connect your desktop to the tablet and other devices by way of a wireless dongle.

Alternatively, there is another way you can do this but it can be costly, mobile broadband explained here

      Thanks.
I’m actually in France with Orange, so the best thing I can do is call them tomorrow. You’ve told me what I need to know, and thanks for that.
