Virgin Media connection goes at midnight every day...

Sooooo every day for like a few months now my internet has been going out late at night. For the first few months it went out at 00:30, and for the last few its been going out at midnight.

What happens is; my ping goes right up to 5000 in teamspeak until I timeout (im connected via ethernet) and everything becomes unaccesable. It says I am still connected, just nothing loads so there is basically no internet.

At some points during the night there is connection on my phone (via wifi) for a few minutes but then it goes away.

I am with virgin media on a 100 down 20 up plan. Its definitley not anyone turning it off in my family I know that for sure.

Just wondering if anyone can give some advice that ISNT β€˜call up virgin media’.

Hi Jean-Mark and welcome to PCHF Let’s get this figured out for you shall we?

    Let’s start with some diagnostics.

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop. Run the program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When the program opens select the following boxes:

    Flush DNS
    Report IE Proxy Settings
    Reset IE Proxy Settings
    Report FF Proxy Settings
    Reset FF Proxy Settings
    List content of Hosts
    List IP Configuration
    List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
    List Installed Programs
    List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Please post the log in your next reply

Virgin Media have been known to β€˜throttle back’ connections if they feel the user is downloading too heavily…

Awesome, and try it when it fails. There might be hidden faults that need to be found

Do you have access to the router to change the settings?
I’d suggest that you factory reset it and change the password.
Ensure that you are on the best channel as well.
When you factory reset the device, make sure that you and your family are the only people who have the new password.
You can also filter Mac Addresses to ensure that you and yours are the only people connecting.
I have also written a guide to optimize internet settings.

Is this suggestion based around other people being able to connect to the network and overloading it? Becuase we are very strict with who has the password and its only the 4 people in our house max.

Might be a good idea to go ahead and reset it to factory anyhow. Over time this will need to be done here and there…

Are you uploading any large files during the day? Virginmedia now only throttle upload speeds.
You could post on the Virginmedia forum to see if anyone there has an answer if no-one can help on this forum.
