    Slow Internet, possible bottleneck?

    Hi there!

Recently my broadband (TalkTalk, in the UK) was upgraded to fiber and all my device were showing 140+ speeds, except my PC which was only around 20/30 mbps. I thought it could be my wifi card (Quallcomm Aetheros AR9287) so i bought a TP-Link AC600 wireless dongle but this didn’t change anything. Now I’ve got a TP-Link TL-PA4010P KIT AV600 powerline network and this is still showing the same speeds. I’ve tried scanning for malware, updating all my drivers and flushing the DNS with no results and I’m completely stuck for what’s causing the slow speeds.

If anyone has some other ideas I could try id love to hear them.

Do you know what plan you have with the provider since they went to fiber ?

What kind of info would you be looking for? What kind of thing on the plan would effect the speed on one device? The speed on my PC didn’t change since the upgrade. And it isn’t affected but the number of devices in the house either.
      Thanks for the reply though

To test the wifi isn’t the sole thing to look into, have you connected the PC straight to the modem/router via an ethernet cable?

I just hooked up a gigabit ethernet cable across the house and that got me 37 mbps down (better than wifi or powerline network) however still not nearly as high as my other devices

                Some theories…
Go into your network adapter settings, for both the wireless and ethernet, and check their IPv4 settings.
Make sure they are set to Obtain IP automatically and Obtain DNS automatically.

                From Speccy…
You have 2 enabled AV programs - Avast, Malwarebytes.
Defender is all you need, so disable MBAM and remove Avast. If Avast if free, leave removed, if subscription, you can reload it after this testing.

D:\ drive SMART values shows it reached a temp of 70 degrees in the past. If believable, check for dust buildup in the case - fans, case vents, grills, and heatsinks.

If the Seagate 2TB drive isn’t being used, disconnect it.

They were both set to automatic anyway but thanks for those tips with my PC generally haha

As I was just checking the IPv4 settings I clicked the β€œrun and internet speed test” link on windows settings. This took me to edge (ew) and showed that i am getting 80+ mbps down. I was very confused and then went back to chrome to use their in built browser one, the one i had been using this whole time, again this showed about 27 down. I then went to the Ookla and fast .com and these were both showing the fast speeds! I redownloaded a small game on steam and lo and behold iw as getting speeds of 10-12 MB/s just as some proof. I have no idea what this means but i guess the chrome inbuilt speed test has a bug??

Anyway thanks for all your help

So would you consider this resolved? ? Or would you like a couple suggestions on how to clean things up a bit, you have a massive amount of auto loading programs and scheduled task running quite a few items connected to the internet at once as well, reducing all of this load on the system and your connection could certainly speed up operation of the machine and overall performance.

Other general computer health tips would be much appreciated!
But I suppose in regard to the internet issues I would say this is solved

                          Right click run as admin.
Go to actions, apply all settings.
Create the restore point when prompted.
Follow thru the prompts, and reboot if needed to apply the settings.

Download Geek Uninstaller and remove anything you do not really use, including Asus Programs as they are not really needed; that is your choice tho.

If you do not use OnrDrive right click the PCHF.bat and run as admin, select [COLOR=rgb(65, 168, 95)]option 5 that will remove it.

Use Edge Block if you do not use, as it chews resources, even when not in use.

Run this batch file I created for you based off the logs.
Unzip to your desktop run as admin.

FarmVille is not on your machine, this is just a list of crap apps that the batch file will remove if installed.

Here is what you have installed, once you complete all the steps post a new PCHF.txt log and we will go from there.

As you are doing, let Mal work his magic - your machine will thank you later. (y)

As to speed tests, I used to use speedof.me but found speedtest.net much more realistic.
Didn’t even know Chrome had a built-in tester. Sounds like you were chasing a rabbit down a hole this whole time.
