    Virgin e -mail and access

    Hi,
I have broadband from Virgin Media. (also TV and phone)
My e-mail is with Mozilla Thunderbird.
When I select “E-mail” or “contact” in a website ( to access that site’s e-mail) it takes me to my Virgin e-mail login page. If it allows me to log in, which is rare, I am greeted with “your e-mail is not available”.
Virgin have tried to fix it several times but failed.
My query is , is it possible to go to my thunderbird e-mail by default when navigating from a website?
    Hope this makes sense?
    Thanks

PS The VM e-mail is a complicated address supplied by VM. My Thunderbird e-mail is different.

Are you currently a VM subscriber? How long have you been a subscriber?
Is the email address the main account or a sub account?
Were you offered the option to change the username (bit before the @) when setting up the account/email address?

Depending on the browser there may be an option to change the MailTo link to open Thunderbird when you click on an email link. Which browser are you using?
If you open the registry & find HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\Mail & double click on the default is any email client shown? If not then enter Mozilla Thunderbird in the Value Data box.

          Yes 20 years
          Main I think?
Sorry don’t remember, don’t think so
The difficulty is sites which don’t show an e-mail address so cannot reply. Some Gov. forms for example
I don’t require the VM address, it never worked reliably so I have never shared it. Possible to delete?
          Thanks

It’s not possible to delete a main VM address as it’s connected to your account & will be required if you need to access your bills etc.
I would create a non VM email address - Google, Yahoo, MS etc - & not use VM email for anything important. I gave up using VM email addresses years ago as it was unreliable.

            Edit:
VM have been updating their website for the last few months so you may need to clear the cookies & cache of the browser & see if you can log in.

To clarify, I don’t use the VM address , never have. Thunderbird has always been reliable.
So is it not possible to have my Thunderbird address as default.
If not I am not able to reply to contact facilities on websites where no address is supplied.
              Thanks

Have you confirmed that the default email account in Thunderbird is the one that you want?

Have you made Thunderbird the default Email program in Windows?

Clicked on a contact link in a web page (holding breath) , long wait expecting the dreaded VM mailbox unavailable-but no! Behold my Thunderbird mailbox. Simply by making TB my default mailbox in Windows. (I think)
Many thanks , been trying to cure this for months.(y)
