    Can't access internet

Hi I’m Tim. I’m a newbie. I just bought an HP Elitedesk 800 G2 off of ebay. The bios is password protected but lucky for me I was still able to load an old copy of Linux Mint 14 just so I could get online to get a later Mint version but I’m unable to access the internet. It keeps showing I’m not connected. My ethernet connection is fine. Is there something in the bios that needs to be changed to access the internet? If so then I’m screwed because I don’t have the bios password. Any help will be greatly appreciated

while we can’t give advice on how to remove or bypass the password, getting into the BIOS will be needed eventually, and right now, could be the reason if the previous owner has disabled the LAN port in the BIOS.

can you get in contact with the person and request the password?

TY Bruce. If that is the case then an Ethernet to USB 3.0 adapter should solve that problem It is worth a shot. Take Care.

or even getting a USB wireless adapter would side-step the issue.
but if not now, sometime in the future you are going to need to get into the BIOS.

of course, getting past a BIOS password is easy - we just can’t discuss it. (y)

I installed Windows 10 and connected to the internet. I don’t understand why I couldn’t connect with Linux Mint 14 but my main problem of having a workable pc that can access the internet is solved. I still can’t access my bios. It is still password locked.

Linux may not of had the driver for your ethernet adapter installed.
or the wrong driver - who knows.

as per forum rule #13, we cannot advise on password recovery or bypassing.
but you will need to get into the BIOS eventually so better cross that bridge now while it’s not important.

I will close this as solved.
              glad you got it working.
