it’s the media control overlay and should go away after a few seconds.
I think the setting is in Action Centre or Notifications.

I’ll have a hunt and see if I can find it.

hmmm… pretty sure you can adjust it, as it doesn’t appear for me when I play any music or videos.
but I’ll be buggered if I can remember how, and find out where I did it.

and Google is being unsurprisingly hard to find a solution on.

      what is your Windows version?

Windows 10 and 8 include a volume display that appears at the top left corner of the screen whenever you adjust the volume using a shortcut key.

With Hide Volume OSD, you can completely block the Windows Volume overlay from showing up when you press either the volume or media keys on your PC.

yeah - I found that 3rd party app but didn’t want to suggest that option because you shouldn’t need to resort to something external when I’m pretty sure Windows can handle it (but I’m still stuffed where the setting is).
and it only talks about stopping the Volume overlay, not the media controls.

but worth a shot, especially if it works!

One way to check where it loads from is PC Hunter
Once the media control overlay is open.
              Start PCHunter.
              Go to processes tab.
Right click on it select locate in file tab.
Then right click then rename it.
Rename it to .bak instead of .exe
Note: you will need to kill the process in order to rename it.

If ask for permission to rename. Run PC hunter thru Runx
To do that, drag PChunter onto Runx icon.
              Repeat above steps.

Current version:  1.0.0.1  Released May 19th, 2021 (fixed a bug with launching processes in general d7x code as explained here.) RunX is designed to easily launch any process with System account or…

                    indeed - spill the beans!

Windows setting or 3rd party app?
