    Unable to download

Hi im just wondering if anyone can help me with an internet problem. I was using a laptop running windows 10 and using my mobile phones hotspot for the internet, the internet works fine but I am unable to download anything on programs like steam or utorrent. I recently purchased a new PC and I am having the same problem. When I was on my laptop there was odd occasions when the download would actually start but this was very rare. Thanks if anyone can help, much appreciated.

The cellular provider may have limited the connection for large downloads. I’d check with them to see if that is the case.

I can download fine directly to my phone though. I was wondering if it had anything to do with ports, that kind of thing?

check your wireless network profile in Win10 hasn’t been set to a metered connection.

Yes that is usually fine. It is the tethering which may be limited.
Are you connected to the pc via Bluetooth, WiFi or USB cable for the internet connection?

I would check with your provider to see whether they allow tethering.
Also check what Bruce suggested re metered connection.

Thanks I’ll try all these methods now i was away from my computer yesterday hopefully something will work. Just baffles me that on the odd occasion it works, if it didn’t work at all I would think it was just a setting.

I’ve noticed I litrally can’t connect to any servers on the outside. I even got a vpn to see if that would work and enable me to download from steam but I can’t connect to any of the vpns servers. I’m guessing it’s my phone network stopping me as I cant think of anything else.

This is crazy I randomly opened a new torrent program to test it and it’s working. I wonder if it’s my phones network and something to do with the time of day/how busy the network is? It’s strange anyway I’ll try it again in the morning.

Yes, that’s the most likely the problem. Another suggestion would be that you’d run out of your internet/tethering allowance & this has just renewed. Even if you have unlimited data often tethering is limited - perhaps 20Gb or less.
I would suggest trying a download at your usual time & then try another at the same time the download was successful.
