    Tech Idiot

    Hi.
I am not the most tech savvy so apologies from the outset.

I have Virgin Media internet. My router was recently replaced and has been working fine. The WiFi is good and there are no issues.

However, my home computer is an HP Desktop unit that is maybe 5 years old, perhaps a little more, and is connected via an Ethernet cable. When I try to connect to the Internet from it the connection is so slow it is prehistoric, like me. It takes so long that a pop up window shows β€˜Page Unresponsive’, but if I wait long enough it will eventually open.

Is this likely to be an issue within the computer? I am happy to take it to a repair shop if it is needed.

    Any advice welcome.

Have you restarted the PC after connecting the new Router?
What speed have you subscribed to & what speed are you receiving?
Are you using the Hub 3 or Hub 4?

Yes to the restart. It has been working fine for a month or more, but has suddenly become very slow; only the PC though, WiFi connection is fine.

Have you tried a different Ethernet cable?
Check Speedtest.net & see what speed you’re receiving.
I may have to double check this suggestion but you may need to check the Ethernet settings for Speed/Duplex & ensure it is set to Full Duplex 100/1000.
