Choosing an email service

Hi, everyone!
Right now, I have a whole bunch of random email addresses with random usernames for different things, like a Microsoft account for my Windows 10 laptop and Xbox One, and a Gmail account for my Samsung Galaxy S6 and its Google services. I want to make a legit email account that I will be accessing for emailing colleagues, emailing support, and getting my “newsletters” on. So, my question is which email provider should I pick to be my primary email? Gmail or Outlook? Whichever one I get, I’ll be migrating the stuff over from the old account to the new account, like if I pick Outlook, I’ll sign into my laptop with my new Outlook account instead of my old one, and vice verse with my Samsung phone. So I guess that’s another thing to take into account, how easy it’d be to migrate from one email to the other.

Nick, I have been down this road and chose Gmail, for two basic reasons. 1. I strongly dislike Microsoft, so I avoid things like Outlook. 2. In addition to being available with my browser, Gmail works nicely with Thunderbird so I don’t have to go on the web to fetch my mail.

I use gmail and in it you can get it to go and get all other emails from all other accounts so no more messing about its all in gmail

It looks to me as if I can actually create a Microsoft account without having to use @outlook.com, but rather just use an existing email address such as a Gmail address that I would create. I want to do that, but I have to then wonder if I can connect my Xbox and Windows 10 laptop to the new Microsoft account and have everything transfer over fine, and then if it’d work at all since it’s not a full Outlook email address. Could anyone do some research for me?

I contacted Microsoft about it. Here’s how it went:
Me: I want to create a new Microsoft account using my Gmail address, and then I want to be able to migrate my laptop and Xbox over from the old account to the new account. So if I make a Microsoft account using my Gmail address, will I be able to use it with my Xbox and laptop, and will I be able to migrate everything over?
Her: Nick, let us isolate your issue now. The best option that we can do for that one is to change your alias instead of creating a new one because we do not have a tool to transfer licenses and all the information from the old account to the new account.
So what I’m thinking is I keep my Microsoft account for use with my Xbox, and then I create a Gmail account to use for everything else. I’ll probably keep my laptop connected to my Microsoft account, just because I get Cortana and stuff like that. How does this sound?
