my GPU keeps crashing i don't know why

my computer screen goes black and my fans rev to max, this happens randomly, under heavy load sometimes under idle.

things I’ve tried already are checking my ram memory,dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, sfc /scannow there were a few others i found online that were similar but i can’t find them.

I’ve used the stress test tool via corsair diagnostics app with everything passing

i used intel’s diagnostic tool to check the CPU passed test

i clean reinstalled my drivers

i plugged my hdmi into the motherboard hdmi and the pc works great, i had the fans briefly rev up but the pc didn’t crash as it would have using my graphics card so I’m positive it’s not anything other than a gpu issue but im not well versed in computers.

this is a prebuilt system that has had this problem since day 1 and when i finally had time to open a ticket i find I’m locked out of my Gmail where my receipt is located, don’t get me started on googles account recovery system.

Yea the 4090 passed the stress test as well
Corsair has a built in diagnostic tool you can run stress test on your hardware.

And I followed a corsair tech supports directions on reinstalling my drivers in safe mode

I’m not over clocking the pc either, everything is set to default in the bios so it’s factory settings. Also my bios are up to date.

I can play gpu heavy games for weeks sometimes without a gpu crash and some days it happens back to back just on idle. It really is random and there’s nothing specific that I do that seems to trigger it.

If you are overclocking anything, change it back to default.

Here’s what the techs instructions were

Restart Windows into Safe Mode.
This can be done by going to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and then click the Restart now button under Advanced startup.
Alternatively, you can hold down the Shift key while clicking Restart under the usual Windows Power menu.
Once the system boots back up into the blue screen, select Troubleshoot.
Select Advanced options.
Select Startup settings.
Click Restart.
Press 4 on your keyboard for Enable Safe Mode.
Once booted into Safe Mode, go to the folder where DDU is downloaded and run it.
After launching DDU, we recommend going to Options to tweak how DDU removes drivers.

We recommend selecting the following options, as these folders are the default locations where the NVIDIA or AMD files are unpacked; once the driver is installed, these folders can be safely deleted:
Under NVIDIA Specific Options, check the Remove “C:\NVIDIA” driver folders option.
Under AMD Specific Options, check the Remove “C:\AMD” driver folders option.

After checking the above options, exit the Options menu.
On the right side of the window, click the dropdown box and select what GPU drivers you want to remove

On the left side of the window, select Clean and restart.
The display drivers should be uninstalled once Windows restarts.

Software such as Windows can crash and when it does crash you get a BSOD and when enabled a crash dmp is generated, programs or games when they crash can on occasion close to the desktop but the computer will still be 100% functional.

Hardware failure such as a weak power supply and/or overheating are not software related and when a computer for example suddenly turns off, freezes or the screen goes black etc the behaviour should be described as the “computer shut down unexpectedly” or froze etc and not as having crashed as the latter implies a software issue as opposed to an obvious hardware issue when described properly.

Having the correct info means that helpers will not be looking for a software issue when the problem is clearly hardware related.

Does the PC ever turn off completely.

Are you aware of the serious issue with the RTX 4090 cards 12V socket, if not read the article here

Phil, what do you think about the PSU with the 4090?

The recommended PSU is 1000W for that card. I like to always be above the recommended in case of spikes.

It is possible Rob as the PSU is the budget version in the range in that it only has a seven year as opposed to a ten year warranty, it can`t quite produce a 1000W either, only 4W short and GPU manufacturers do overstate PSU requirements but I do 100% stress that people always match or exceed the PSU requirements.

The error is Windows related so we need to look into that once we have an update from the OP, we will need further info from them as well.
