How to transfer files via local wifi-network? (continued)

This is a continuation of pchelpforum.net/t/how-to-transfer-files-via-local-wifi-network.88273/

Sorry for the late response. I am busy with work and since I can share files from the laptop, this isn’t urgent.

    PeterOz:
“If you want to make note of what we say to not retype
Highlight the text and it will give an option to reply click on that and it will put it in quotes.”
Higlighting text does not give me such option. Maybe that works when the thread is not closed.

    PeterOz:
“Where did you create the folder”
On the laptop I put the to be shared folder in my user folder. On the desktop I put it in the documents folder of my user folder.
    PeterOz post 19:
OK, I created a new local account.

    PeterOz 20:
Before making the new account an administrator account and being logged into that account I can’t log into the laptop from the desktop because like before in post 16 the laptop can’t be found on the network.
After making the new account an administrator account it was the same.
The text of the troubleshooter says that my computer seems correctly configured but that the source (the laptop) does not respond.
Then I check and notice that network and printer sharing is off. Turning that on makes the users/public folder accissible without requiring to give a password.
Then I turn on ‘Sharing with password protetion’. Now I need to log in with a password, but I get access to the whole users folder (with public and the new user).
Then I share a folder on the laptop, but that doesn’t change anything.
The I log into the main account of the laptop. I got access to the same (users with public and the new user), but all the folders are empty.

    Phillpower2:
“Being that the OP revisited the forum but chose not to reply this thread will be closed.”
I don’t think I revisted the forum prior. Maybe my browser did when I start it up, as it is a tab there.

      @PeterOz - I have re-opened the original thread.
@Amoranemix2 - I’ll leave Peter’s reply here as it isn’t relevant to the original thread and you’ll be able to see how to Reply via Peter’s example above.
