    Unable to install antivirus

I have just bought an HP stream laptop and tried to install Mcafee total protection as I have done many other laptops beforewith no trouble .
I was able to download to my laptop but there is no install icon on the toolbar as instructed, so am unable to progress further. There is even the arrow pointing to where the download should be ! Ive tried to download it again but no luck

Mcafee is also a memory hog.

Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection.

If you choose to remove it, please use this tool: Mcafee MCPR tool.

some independent stats to confirm Defender’s credentials.
The current tests of antivirus software for Windows 11 from October 2023 of AV-TEST, the leading international and independent service provider for antivirus software and malware.

and clicking the Defender row, you get this: Test Malwarebytes Premium 4.6 for Windows 11 (231512) | AV-TEST

then consider it’s free, inbuilt, auto-updates, and is maintained by the same people as the OS and you have to say β€˜why use anything else?’

if McAfee came with the laptop, you sort of got it for free (it’s cost was factored in), if you bought it separately, I’d give it to someone for a Christmas pressy or sell it.
