    Compatibility in Word

    Hello Everyone,

I have just registered and become a member to ask for help!

I am using Lenovo laptop with W.11.

I have been using Word documents for over 20 years to record various data.

My word documents have suddenly been changed to (Compatibility Mode) and I am now unable to edit, add or work on them.

I have searched online and tried some advice offered but none of them are effective and on return I have the same problem.

I have poor technical skills and am also well past my sell-by date, and technical details tend to confuse me!

If there is a way to return my Word documents to enable me to continue working with them as a method of keeping my data, I would be most grateful.

    Thanks, in advance

    Colin.

This is due to the fact that you are using a newer version of Word compared to the previous one that you were used to using.

Basically, what you need to do is convert the file to the new version of Word. Easiest way I have found (for me) was open the file then preform a Save As.

This will create a new file under the new format and then you can check to make sure that they new file work and then delete the old one.

When doing this make sure that the original and new are not in the same folder to prevent both from being lost.

      This may help as well.
Compatibility mode allows you to edit documents from older versions of Word. If you need to get out of compatibility mode in Word, follow this guide.

as Rusty has said, basically you have .DOC files but your Word is expecting .DOCX
