"no signal" on second monitor after windows update

    Dear ICT friends,

Since installing Windows 11 Pro, I’ve had trouble with detecting my second monitor.

Until recently it succeeded via the following method:

Reset driver to old program and then reset to new program again. After the reset (new driver → old driver → new driver) my second monitor could detetct my PC. I did that via:

Device Manager > Display adapters > Update drivers > Search for drivers on my computer

When I turned on PC it never recognized new program. But after the “reinstallation” it did. Now even that doesn’t work anymore. Do you guys know how I can solve that problem?

Other things I have already tried are:
    • connecting other PCs to monitor (works)
    • testing other HDMI cable with my PC and monitor (fails)
    • testing my PC on other monitor (fails)
    • Reinstalling PC (flop, because I had to purchase Windows 11 again and now have the same problem again)
-installing intel autodetect (worked at first, but not anymore)

The problem always comes back after detaching my PC from the monitor (I use an HDMI cable). I used to be able to solve this through changing display system. All of a sudden this does not work anymore…

Can anyone help my with this issue?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Greetings,

    Elena Leclercq

g’day Elena and welcome to the forums.
sorry it’s taken so long for someone to address your post.

use DDU to uninstall the current driver.
reboot and let Windows install a driver.
    see if this works.

      from the OP
Hi Bruce, sorry for the late reply. Guess my thread indeed closed due to inactivity. I tried the solution you suggested. So used ddu and let windows choose a new driver. It worked at first. But when I detached my PC detached and turned my PC off, it happened again…So now again, I cannot connect with my monitor (it says “no signal”). Do you know what the problem could be?

Let’s get your complete PC specs.
get Speccy from here; Speccy - Download Builds
in Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot (hit Yes if prompted to proceed with publish) > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
now you can paste (Ctrl+V) that link into your next post.
One component Speccy doesn’t cover is the Power Supply Unit, so also include the make/model of the PSU.

while we wait for that, let’s get some more eyes on this - @PeterOz @Pyro @georgeks

Above I copied the link from speccy. I tried to find the PSU model, but I don’t see it on my PC. The serial number of my PS (ASUS) is J2N0CV008512050. Can you continue with that information? I saw on a YT-video that with help of the serial number, the laptop properties can be found on the site of the manufacturer. So far, however, I did not find it.

Have you tried using cycling through the displays using the keyboard?

Had the system detect for multiple displays form the setting?

Goto ASUS site and download your system drivers for the display card that is in your system.

                          Hi Rustys,

I just tried shifting between monitors with my keyboard (WIN + shift + left/right arrow), but that this not work. Even thought the monitor is connected with the cable, it is not being detected.

I am afraid I do not entirely understand what you want me to try in your second and third question.

Is the third question related to the following: When this problem first arised, I hired an ICT specialist to solve the issue. He wanted to download the original driver, but saw that is was no longer available for the model of my PC. So then he completely reinstalled my PC. The monitor connection worked until upgraded my Windows version. The old driver is still listed in device manager, however, it no longer works.

You upgraded for Windows 10 to 11 correct?

If windows 10 had no issue finding it.
Using the serial number that you posted

If you use Windows Key + P that cycle through the presentation modes.

Working with just 2 monitors right

Both are plugged directly into the display card, correct?

                            See if this helps.

There is a detect that can be clicked on the second link (according to images) that should cause the system to search for the monitors.

Sometime removing the reference then rebooting and allowing the system to rebuild corrects it.
