starter problems - language, finding items

    1. let’s fix the language/region issue - run those commands in post #2 from an elevated command prompt.
    2. you say you can’t get a screenshot of the Chinese text - are you not receiving read receipts with this text any more? what about old read receipts that should be in the Deleted Items folder.
    3. in post #8 you mention you get read receipts in Outlook - where are you using Outlook?
    4. and to check - if it wasn’t regarding read receipts, your emails are working fine?

      get Speccy from here; Speccy - Download Builds
      in Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot (hit Yes if prompted to proceed with publish) > Copy to Clipboard > Close.

      the spilt coffee laptop had Outlook yes?
      if so, you have a product key that you could use to install Outlook on the new laptop?

        is a problem. Microsoft 365 on the laptop was provided through my college, but they don’t seem to be providing it for download anymore only an online version. You honestly I’ll check on it again tomorrow because it’s quite late here now.

            1. I’m holding off on the first one. It seems like every time I try modify something via command prompts etc something goes wrong. I’ve changed all the settings to english, including chrome, and it keeps correcting it for Dutch. For example every word as I type this has a misspelling underscore, which is distracting.
            2. The read receipts aren’t in this version of outlook at all. As if they never existed. They were only in the pre-installed outlook tool. The one that has been preinstalled in windows for centuries.
            3. I’m not too sure on that. The mail app came with the instalation and when I open it, it says outlook on top. But it is not outlook, more like a merge between mail and outlook. In the original I had the option to recover deleted emails. That is, I could choose to delete an email, send it to the deleted folder, delete it from the deleted folder, and I could then open outlook and find an option to recover emails that had been completely deleted. This is gone now.
            4. Many of my emails have been dropping into thin air for years now. This is why I put read receipts on. When I saw them returning in chinese it raised alarm bells. I checked the IP address for them and they are coming from an Amazon server in Dublin beside the street I used to work on … but idk, if you have someone who can intercept emails they probably know how to use a VPN anyway so it probably doesn’t mean much. As mentioned above, I was also surprised before to open my outlook and see emails in the fully deleted folders which I had not placed there, Now I can’t see what it is going in there.

              Did you set English as the primary language and remove the Dutch?
              Plus any other language that are showing there.

              Post a screen shot of the screen remember to black out any personal information and email address.

                regarding the Dutch I decided to just do a factory reset and reboot in English. I feel like we’re spiraling onto other problems though, because it’s a new albeit refurbished laptop but for some reason pressing the brightness button on the keyboard returns the message HP software framework is not installed and there was an annoying screen glare. I did the reset and it resolved the issues. Also my bluetooth controller was working fine but now the laptop won’t detect it when plugged in or via the signal. Both of those issues started at the same time but were resolved on the reset. Being second hand it was due one anyway.

                  so the language issue is resolved?
                  and what email software are you now using?
                  is Bluetooth not working? - after the reinstall, did you download and install the motherboard drivers from the laptop’s website?

                    oddly some things are still showing in Dutch. My location is NL but in the reboot I switched to UK region but many of the apps are still rebooting in Dutch. I logged back into FB and the return message was in Dutch, but nothing else was. Language settings on Chrome are UK settings too.

                    Software is just whatever came installed. It’s not the same one I was using before because there’s too many features missing.

                    No to the third on what you suggested, but bluetooth is working fine. I was playing FF7R last night and thinking it’s great to sit back and enjoy the game with a controller rather than those keyboard tank controls, then I wake up today and the only thing not working is the bluetooth controller. It still switches on when I plug it in and switches on when I activate it wirelessly but suddenly bluetooth doesn’t recognize it.

                      language issue should go away after post #2 commands are run (after adjusting for your locale).

                      I’m not a user of the inbuilt Mail app, I’d be recommending either getting Outlook, or using your web browser and logging on to the webmail portal of your mail hoster.

                          Eh … well as of today the screen brightness problem has returned. It is permanently set at the lowest setting and the key for brightness change just reads HP software is not installed or not running. Please instal - inserts link. I don’t feel like resetting windows again but this is obviously something happening internally and isn’t related to anything I’m doing.

                          I installed Microsoft 365 from a new college. It is meant to be 100% free with the course but now it is giving me a message saying my free trial will run out in 5 days. It is not a free trial. It is package provided by and required for college use. They’re not allowed put a free trial on it.

                          Also I’ve noticed there is no print screen button on my keyboard and I don’t know how else to do it. I was opening the virtual keyboard to do it and it was working fine, but now the print screen on the VK has also stopped working.

                          I think the Dutch issue is just Apps automatically running in Dutch now.

                              Well the 365 problem was myself not being aware that I had to sign in through the new college email address. I’m using 365 mail again as it was before, and now I am seeing the read recepit return to me in English stating what a RR should be expected to say. I was signing in by my standard outlook account. Two things changed, new laptop and new college/365 account. I am guessing whatever the RR change difference is has something to do with one or both of these.

                              Also, I opened what I think is the 365 outlook app and it looks completely different.

                                To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:
