Can't open Settings in Windows 11

Hi guys. Got a new PC today with Windows 11 installed. All seemed fine until I tried to access settings. Settings window opens briefly then closes. I can’t get into settings at all. Otherwise the machine is fine.

Is there a simple solution to this?

    Many thanks in advance.

Found this and Microsoft is aware of the issue and working on a patch.

Hello Windows Insiders! We released the first preview build of Windows 11 today to the Dev Channel.  We're excited and hope you are as well! There is currently a known issue that affects devices with multiple user accounts that take this upgrade.  Here…

Thanks Rustys, unfortunately I have tried that fix a couple of times without success. I can’t get into updates either to see if there is a download. Will an update install in the background?

Once again thanks for your help.

        @Bruce

Do not know that much about Windows 11 if it is anything like Windows 10 it should since Windows update is automatic. Now when they get it patched out wish I had an answer for that too.

you could try resetting the Windows Store but for me, if you can’t wait, and there is no guarantee any update will resolve it, I’d be getting the ISO from Windows Media Creation Tool for Win11 and making a bootable USB stick and reloading Win11.

first try the repair option keeping your software and personal files.
but being a new PC, you probably don’t have much or any personal data yet.
I assume you have the PC connected to the internet and Windows has activated.

was the Setting icon ever working, or stopped working after you loaded new software or something?

Thanks Bruce. I’m not confident about creating an ISO, I was hoping for a quick tweak.
Yes it’s a new PC and I don’t have any data on it yet. The PC is connected to the internet and Windows is activated as far as I know (can’t access properties or settings).

No the Settings icon has never worked. It opens the Settings window which is blank with just the cogwheel icon in the middle then within 2 seconds it closes.

              Thanks again

                RESOLVED.

For some unknown reason I can now access settings.

Thanks for all your help folks.

Microsoft may have sent the patch or it just decided to work.

glad to hear that Happy Computing
