Hi! Does anybody know if it is possible to transfer a hard drive from an old Windows XP laptop into a modern laptop? Are there any special things that I would need to do that? Would I even be able to run the operating system on a modern laptop? I’d appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!

Probably will not work the drive may not fit if full size and all modern HDD are SATA where the older drive are PATA (IDE)
You will have to wipe and preform a fresh install of the OS that is was on the Laptop and install the drivers starting with the chipset first and then the rest of the drivers in the proper order. -

Ok now I see what you are wanting to do.
Was reading this a you were wanting to replace the primary drive with the XP one.
You purchased and adapter that will connect the drive via USB if I am understand this correctly?
The yes it should work just like ant other USB drive.Comment

Thanks for letting me know! I still have to receive the adapter to try it, so I’m hoping it will work. I was originally thinking of swapping it with a modern drive to see if I could just boot to it on my laptop since that’s what I do with other, modern drives. At the time I made the original post, I didn’t know the older drives were IDE and I hadn’t thought of getting an adapter yet.Comment
