    Windows 98

Over the weekend Pop dug our old pc out of storage. We bought in early 2000. HP Pavillion runs Windows 98. It has a bunch of my old writings from high school that I wanted to get off of there. So Sunday evening I hooked it all up plugged it all in it turned on made that old familiar sound and then both screen goes blank and says operating system not found. I rebooted it for 5 times you know turn the power on and off same message every time. So what now?

Hi wow 2000 thats a long time ago! I bet the bios battery is dead and it’s forgot it’s setting in the bios..

    try this below

Get the fix for “Operating System not found” boot error for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 or Windows 10. This error is also very common for Sony VIO laptops, including T-Series ultra boo…

Matt may well be right here but in case.

Do you have a Windows 98 boot disc?

If not I would suggest another option to the above is to create a Linux live CD, say Puppy or Zorin, on another computer and boot your old PC with it. That should allow you to locate and copy your documents to somewhere safe

Will lecture you on the value of backups later..

Personally, I’d not waste any time, effort or money on that old rig.
Remove the hard drive and either insert it into a current PC or get yourself an external drive enclosure, whack it in that and connect it to any PC you have.

Another consideration, do you remember what you used to write these things? If you used something obscure, you might not be able to read them even if you copy them off the old hard drive.
I too had an HP Pavilion purchased in 2000 with 98SE on it. I e-cycled it in 2006.
