Hello. This is a follow up to my post on Nov. 5. Big thanks to Bruce and Peteroz for their comments.
It took longer than expected to get access to Window’s Media creation tool and life’s hurdles delayed my reply on that thread before it closed.

I was successful copying the Win 7 program disc to my usb. All of the Win 7 program files are present as per photo posted in prior thread. The issue is that even though I tried F8 while booting my computer, it is not reading the usb but going into bios. I tried to direct Bios to boot from USB but am not sure if done properly.

My motherboard is : Asus maximus VI hero LGA 1150. I believe PeterOz asked about it to help guide me if I cant boot from USB.

Looking for some advice or tips to have my “new” computer which is OS free to read my USB and use it to install as the OS.

    Thank you.

Why not install and use Windows 10 and or 11 and not unsecure no longer patched operating system?

        What have you tried?
Have you confirmed that the drive is connected via power?

Have you tried the mechanical release button?

Is this a prefabricated system or someone built this?

Maybe clean the system and check to make sure that the fans are not hitting anything.

I dragged and dropped the files from Win 7 disc to my usb. The result matches the attachment in the above reply from Peteroz’s post.

yeah nah - that won’t make the stick bootable so your PC will never see it as a bootable device
so you never went down the path of using Windows Media Creation Tool?

I have tried installing Win 7 only to the “new to me” desktktop pc via the usb as the blue ray drive will not open.

What have you tried? I thought I needed to go with win 7 first. To be honest I did not think about installing Win 10 or 11 directly. My plan was to upgrade to Win 10 after installing Win 7 disc ( via USB) since I have the program disc for it.

Have you confirmed that the drive is connected via power? yes the blue ray disc is connected to power.
                Make and model?
Media LG 14x blue ray RW

Have you tried the mechanical release button? Not sure where it is but i have tried all of the buttons near the drive.

Is this a prefabricated system or someone built this? Prior owner who was a gamer built it. Im not a gamer.

                Bruce,

I did try to create and use the Windows media creation tool over a week ago but I forgot my product key. I was able to download an .exe file but it was very small in size at. 18.6 mb. Windowsmediacreation22H2.exe
Looks like I cant download Win 7 due to age and will have to download win 10? Do you concur?
I will be able to try again tomorrow

                Thank you

No, you do not have to install Windows 7 the update to 10. If you have it handy should be able to use the same key for 10.

Here is the link for Windows 10.

You stated that the Blue Ray has power connected did you remove the cable and reconnect it to confirm that it is connected properly?

If you must have win 7 then there is a win 8/7 media creation tool you can use but I would expect the same result.

As Rustys advised win 10 would probably be better. Must you have win 7? Do you have your win 7 product key?

Store these drivers on another usb or you can even just make a folder on your install usb when you are finished making the install usb. Copy the drivers into that folder.

When you are finished with the install, then install your drivers. Install the chipset first then the rest of them. Reboot each time when prompted.

I’m not sure as I assume the prior owner put it together or bought it buillt by someone.
