    Old laptop

My wife dropped her laptop 10 years ago and it stopped working.
During lockdown I was bored so took it apart and got it working again… It all works fine accept I don’t know how to update it all as its obviously out of date and whenever I try to search on Google there’s a problem with the certificate please can someone help me?? +
Please take it easy and try to explain in simple as possible as I’m not tech minded at all lol…

    Hello

What does the problem with the certificate say? Which win 7 do you have? Only Win 7 pro is getting any updates at this time.

Have you ran Windows update manually?
        Click Start
        Control Panel
On the top right select from the drop down large Icon View
Towards the bottom if the list select Windows Update

Yes I have but some updates fail
Some of them say a firewall is stopping it, I’ve disabled Windows firewall and tried but still no joy
The whole laptop needs updating because it’s stuck in 2010 lol

            That helps to know.

            Access the BIOS
Knowing the make and model would help
Usually tapping the F2 an or Delete and or some other key
Change the date and time here then save exit and let it reboot and try the updates again.

What’s the make & model of the laptop?
Have you checked for any updates via the manufacturer?

                  Hi,

Have you considered updating the laptop to Windows 10? If the laptop does work with Windows 7 then it will most likely work with Windows 10 assuming the laptop has an SSD at least for improved performance.

You can update to Windows 10 for free and use the existing Windows 7 product key to activate it. If the hardware is decent enough its worth trying I think.

Download the Media Creation Tool and have it upgrade your system to Windows 10 and have it keep all your files, settings and apps and it will be pretty straightforward.

Did the upgrade to Windows 10 work properly?
