    Media keyboard control

Hi all. I am looking for IT advice.

Many years ago I bought and started using a media keyboard. If you can help me you will already know what one of these keyboards is and what they look like!

The one I bought had over twenty media keys and came with an installation software CD. This software allowed the user to program each multi-media key to almost any possibility, from individual files in specific folders to any program. You could set a key to start your browser at, say, your email account, or set another to start Photoshop. Whatever you wanted. At the time I think I was using Windows 98 and when I changed to first, Win2000 and then WinXP, the program also worked in those operating systems. It was a brilliant little program, really simple to use and easy to reset keys.

However, when I had to upgrade to later versions of Windows, the program would no longer run! I have been searching for its replacement ever since. Does anyone have, or know of such a program that will run on either Windows7 or 10?

What’s the make & model of the keyboard?
Have you checked the manufacturer for any updated drivers or software?

right click your program, Properties, Compatibility tab, tick the box Run this program in Compatibility mode for, and choose your OS.

      worth a shot.

what’s the name of the program?
No I tried that. I don’t think I still have the program.

It was a generic program that I used on many and various keyboards, no two being the same. It just worked on them all!

How old is the program? If it’s a number of years old it most likely is no longer compatible.

It is NOT the keyboard. The keyboard is irrelevant! It’s the software, which works for every MEDIA-keyboard I have owned - at least 7 or 8 of them, all different. The software had no trademark with it and no identification. It was only a few kilobytes. It last worked in WinXP.

EXACTLY! I am looking for a program that WILL work in Windows 7 plus!

                  Nick,
it’s been 5 days and 9 posts and we still don’t know the name of the software or the make/model of the keyboard.
you may think we are asking stupid questions, but if we knew that info perhaps alternatives that you haven’t thought of yourself could be suggested.

for example, I have used Microsoft and Logitech multimedia keyboards before and have used their software to control the media keys. I currently have a Logitech RGB mechanical keyboard and the software lets me go crazy on programming the keys.

and what is Windows 7 plus, or did you mean Pro?
and… just to throw it out there, any reason why you don’t go to Win10?

I feel we are going around in circles here.
you keep giving the same answer and not answering other questions members have been requesting.

how can we help you if you don’t answer our questions!
I suggest Google would be your best bet moving forward.

                      I’ll tag out now.

I’m really not being obtuse, but how can I not give a different answer if the questions are the same? If everyone asks me the same question they’ll get the same answer.

All of my keyboards have been generic and from different manufacturers

I only ever had ONE programme

Whenever I changed keyboards the program continued to work, regardless

                        The program had no identification

It worked in Win98/2000/XP and then failed to work (or even load) in later versions of windows

                        I have no other information!

The question I asked the group was if anyone knew of a program that would allow the user to define the operation of the media keys!

I am sorry if you think I’m being awkward, but I’m really not!

Oh, and compatibility mode does nothing!
