Message 'no disc in drive' when there is! Won't burn CDs

I’ve tried every way I can see how to burn an audio CD today. I keep getting a message that there is ‘no disc in drive’. Drive is there in Device Manager, but I do0n’t know what else I should be able to ‘see’. I’m on a Dell Inspiron N5030 (reluctantly having given up on my much loved XP Pro OS)

Maybe it’s a faulty disc, have you tried another?

Can be several issues, including a dead burner. You could try uninstalling the drivers in device manager and rebooting to reinstall them also.

To add what Gus has stated you might also want reseat the data and power cables?

Does the drive have any problems reading disk data and or music?
