    Win7 Thumbnails

    (1) Can/do the thumbnail caches found at:

    C:\Users\User-Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

have any affect on the PC startup time, as does the icon cache?

    (2) When CCleaner deletes the caches, are they then rebuilt?

      1. Startup time of the first boot after deleting thumbnail caches may be improved marginally, but it’ll be negligible.
      2. Yes, which is why deleting thumbnail cache isn’t recommended. While it may improve startup time of the first boot after thumbnail cache deletion by a very small amount, it will slow your system down when Windows rebuilds the thumbnail previews.

        lkjk,
        Thanks for response.

I’ve got about 300 albums in My Music folder, and I have placed thumbnails on all the tracks (maybe 4500 - 5000 thumbnails - not really required I suppose)
Would it be better if the thumbnails were deleted from the tracks and just have the mp3 logo?

Basically, what I’m asking is, if I do away with all these thumbnails, will startup time be quicker?

I don’t think you’d see improvements to your startup time, but you’d see improvements in how long it takes to open/load your music folders, and you’d save some storage space.

Your music thumbnails aren’t loaded at startup, they’re loaded when the folder is opened for viewing.

If your startup is slow, there may be other factors, such as startup processes.

Unless you have your music somehow linked to an app that’s included in your startup the thumbnails will not impact startup. I have several hundred thousand mp3,s and mp4’s, all with thumbnails that dont affect much at all that is noticeable.

If you start your media player with all your music pre loaded than that could take a little longer to actually load the app, but that’s about it.

Roger, your PC, from memory, is modestly powered, and apps like your AV and background processes can have an impact on startup. Again from memory if you want to speed up your startup the best approach would be to consider reinstalling Windows, and if you can replace your existing hard drive with an SSD. Please don’t think we are out to put your pc specs down, but it’s amazing how quickly technology dates these days.

Previously we pruned your tasks and processes harshly so they shouldn’t be so demanding?
